What is an Academy?
The Academy is more that just a building on a training ground - it's where boys come to learn our Academy philosophy of always trying to be the best you can be, doing things the right way - the Sunderland way.
The Academy is a place where parents know that regardless of the level of success achieved in football their son will gain invaluable advice, education and gain a solid platform from which they can move forward and make sound decisions on lifestyle choices.
What are the aims of the Academy?
Sunderland AFC aim to create a football Academy which is attractive to both players and parents. It will be professional, friendly and have approachable staff to which players and parents can relate to.
The Academy will enable the all-round development of the young player to take place and will include the social, academic and technical aspects of personal development.
When a player joins the Academy he will quickly realise that we have experienced and committed members of staff to help them through their time with us.
We have a responsibility to develop potential young players, both technically and personally, in a challenging safe and supportive environment. We strive to create an environment where young, developing players are allowed - and not afraid - to experiment, make errors and above all else express themselves along the pathway to their personal goal.
At Sunderland AFC Academy we have a system in place which allows young players to progress to the first team squad if they are prepared to work hard, be open minded and stay committed.
Players attending the Academy will be treated fairly and respectfully and will receive advice and feedback in a holistic approach which will produce young men and footballers who we can all be proud of.
