McClean doubtful for Arsenal game

Winger battling ankle problem.

Martin O'Neill has revealed that James McClean faces a race to be fit in time to face Arsenal tomorrow.

The 23-year-old winger returned from international duty nursing an ankle injury having featured for the Republic of Ireland against Poland.

McClean started the game at the Aviva Stadium and was withdrawn nine minutes from time.

O'Neill says the former Derry City man is receiving treatment but it's not yet known whether he'll be included in the squad for tomorrow's game.

"James has a problem," O'Neill admitted. "He played about 80 minutes for the Republic of Ireland and got a knock on his ankle in the first half, but played on.

"It's blown up somewhat, so at the moment the physios are dealing with him. We'll see how he is, but it might be a problem."
