Spanish star Carlos Cuellar believes Sunderland showed glimmers of what they are capable of during their game with Everton.
Despite leaving Goodison Park on the losing side, the defender says the Black Cats can take confidence from their performance after really testing the resolve of the Blues, who currently sit fourth in the Barclays Premier League.
After the game, Cuellar told safc.com: "The defeat was very tough to take and disappointing but I thought we played very well and we created a lot of goal scoring chances."
Adam Johnson put Sunderland ahead at the stroke of half-time, but the winger's first goal in red and white was cancelled out by Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic.
"We were much improved and it was a good team performance.
"We had good control of the ball and good spells in the game and really tested their goalkeeper.
"The players are down at the moment, because we played so well and lost, but we can take confidence from that performance."We know we played well."
