Danny Rose cut a frustrated figure following Sunderland's loss at Goodison Park.
The left back returned to Sunderland's starting XI and excelled in a very solid display from the Black Cats' backline, however, he was left disappointed after Everton clawed back two second half goals to cancel out Adam Johnson's opener.
Following the defeat at Everton, Rose told safc.com: "It's the best we've played since I've been here and we haven't created many chances but today we had four in the first half that we didn't put away and then paid the price for.
"We're playing in the best league in the world and when you don't take your chances you get punished.
"Everton were very direct, we've played similar teams already this season, like West Ham and Stoke, but to lose is very hard to take."
Sunderland are back in action next week as they make their seventh away trip of the season and travel to Fulham.
"We can't sit around and lick our wounds," Rose added. "We've got to stand up and be counted and go to Fulham and aim for three points.
"It's disappointing we lost today considering how well we played in the first half. Johnno [Adam Johnson] did well with the goal and that's what we need from him goals and assists.
"At the moment the frustration is outweighing the positives.
"You go out there to get three points but you would much rather come back with the points and negatives, rather than no points and positives.
